We leave at 4 AM toward the Tatio geothermal field, the highest in the world. We arrive before dawn to see the steam columns at peak activity in the cold of night. After hot breakfast among the geysers, we soak in natural hot springs (optional) and head back via the highland village of Machuca. Note: altitude can affect you — stay hydrated, dress warm, eat light the night before.
